Tharwat, 40-year-old, an internally displaced woman from the rural areas of Idleb Governorate. Tharwat lost her husband in the hostilities that took place in the area, and her 7-year-old son suffered a massive injury in his stomach and head which left him mentally disabled due to the lack of proper medical care at the time.

In 2014 she fled her hometown with her 2 sons (Ali, 7 & Mohamad, 3) and her 75 year-old mother in-law and moved to different cities before she settled in Mesiaf city in Hama Governorate. Tharwat rented a small apartment and had a very hard time moving from one small temporary job to another. The job barely covered the rent and some basic needs of the family.

Tharwat was one of 22 beneficiaries who got a sustainable job at the Pastry Workshop in Mesiaf City. “I have gained a lot of new skills and experience in making various types of pastries. Thanks to this job, I no longer have to worry about making ends meet. This is more than a job to me, I have made some really good friends here and I truly feel like I belong.” she said. Tharwat’s smile, energy, and positive spirit extended to all those around her.
